Utilizing an integrated design-build approach that engaged 60+ stakeholders, this new cancer clinic is "right-sized" now and for the future.

Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University Hospital collaborated with the Beck team to design and build a state-of-the-art outpatient cancer clinic that encouraged preventative care and kept patients out of the emergency department. Beck's integrated team worked with over 60 internal stakeholders to create a highly functional clinic serving a diverse range of cancer patients. The team focused on right-sizing the space to ensure it was operational in the short and long term. Cancer patients were always at the top of the team's mind during the design process. The resulting clinic "template" included integrating technology to allow patients to go directly to a treatment room instead of a waiting room and creating space for family support. Every treatment room is designed to accommodate a range of procedures. This element will allow the entire facility to scale up to 24/7 care should the need arise. Beck's integrated approach allowed the project to be designed quickly by utilizing full-scale mock-ups for stakeholder consensus. The mock-ups served as early design documentation so the team could move straight to CDs, cutting the project schedule in half.
